Membrane for filtering of water

Aquaporin-channel water filtration membranes unlock ultra-pure water and glycerol processing without high-pressure desalination.

What it is

Engineered membranes embed aquaporin channels that selectively transport water molecules while rejecting most solutes, enabling purification of ultra-pure water and recovery/removal of excess water from aqueous mixtures. The key technical advantage is single-molecule, channel-mediated transport that can outperform purely size-based filtration by maintaining high water flux with improved selectivity versus conventional membranes. Previously, using functional aquaporin-based membrane architectures for these purification targets could require licensing from Aquaporin A/S.

What you could build

Launch small-footprint ultrapurification systems for electronics labs or wastewater “water extraction” units using aquaporin membranes.
