Elevator Pitch

The global shipping industry is a top 6 emitter, producing 1 billion tons of CO2 annually. We are developing solutions to significantly reduce these emissions, tapping into a massive market driven by regulatory pressure and corporate sustainability goals.

Full Description

The international shipping sector is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, rivaling the output of entire industrialized nations. Annually, this industry generates approximately 1 billion tons of CO2, accounting for nearly 3% of all global emissions. To put this into perspective, this single industry emits more greenhouse gases than Germany, the world's fourth-largest economy.

This substantial environmental impact affects everyone, as the consequences of climate change are global. The shipping industry is critical for international trade, moving over 80% of global trade volume by quantity. However, its reliance on heavy fuel oil, a byproduct of crude oil refining, makes it a major polluter. The sheer scale of global trade ensures this problem is widespread and will only grow as trade volumes increase.

The market opportunity for decarbonization solutions is immense, driven by increasing regulatory scrutiny from bodies like the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and growing pressure from consumers and investors for sustainable practices. Companies are actively seeking ways to reduce their carbon footprint to meet environmental targets and avoid potential carbon taxes or penalties.

While some efforts are underway, such as slow steaming and the exploration of alternative fuels like LNG and methanol, current solutions are often insufficient, costly, or not yet scalable. There is a clear need for innovative technologies and strategies that can drastically cut emissions across the vast fleet of cargo ships, offering a viable path towards a greener maritime future.
