Elevator Pitch

Most cancers are treatable if caught early, and modern MRIs can spot millimeter-sized masses. YC wants companies that scale MRI screening at least 100x.

Full Description

YC argues the technology to catch cancer early already exists: modern MRIs can detect masses as small as a millimeter. Since most cancers are now treatable if caught early enough, rolling this out widely and affordably would sharply reduce cancer deaths.

Some companies already offer MRIs to patients for a high cash price. YC notes pushback from the medical community, because scans also produce incidental findings, or false positives, that cost the health system time and money to investigate.

The ask: YC says the number of MRI scans would need to grow at least 100x. That takes better MRI hardware, AI to read scans and reduce false positives, and business models and consumer marketing that make it viable.

YC's view is that finding cancer early enough for existing treatments to cure it may have the greatest potential impact.
