Full Description
YC points out that the AI revolution depends on a huge buildout of physical infrastructure, such as data centers and semiconductor fabs, and that there's a shortage of the skilled tradespeople who build it: electricians, HVAC technicians and welders.
Why now: the government's new AI Action plan stresses a "worker-first" agenda and directs the Departments of Labor and Commerce to fund rapid retraining programs for these jobs.
The ask: a new kind of vocational school that uses AI to create personalized training and get people job-ready in months, not years. Trades are learned by practicing in the real world, not at a keyboard, so YC suggests voice AI that coaches someone through a task, or AR/VR simulation with an AI tutor that uses vision models to watch and give feedback.
The business: employers pay to hire the trained workers. Coding bootcamps struggled to scale the quality of human tutors; YC notes that one effective AI teacher could scale without limit.
