Full Description

YC notes that the US spends more per person on healthcare than any other developed nation, yet patient outcomes are no better. In YC's view, much of that spending goes to middlemen, meaning everyone not directly providing care to patients.

YC cites a report on Medicare drug spending that found 70% went to middlemen, mainly PBMs, wholesalers and pharmacies, and only 30% to the drug makers. It says similar dynamics exist in hospital care, medical equipment, insurance and other areas.

The ask: startups that attack these inefficiencies, whether by using AI to automate repetitive human jobs or by trying new, better business models for providing care. Citing Jeff Bezos's "your margin is my opportunity", YC believes a company can be highly profitable while making the system more efficient.
