Full Description
Using computers to help people learn goes back to Vannevar Bush's Memex idea in the 1940s, J.C.R. Licklider's "Man-Computer Symbiosis" paper in the 1960s and Alan Kay's Dynabook proposal in the 1970s. Yet most online education still delivers the same content to everyone who signs up.
Why now: YC says reasoning models can break complex topics down step by step, and multimodal models can explain concepts with generated animations, 3D objects and voice.
The vision: YC points to Grant Sanderson's 3blue1brown videos as an example of what one great teacher can do with visualizations, and imagines that quality for every topic, personalized to each learner, through an interactive AI tutor.
The ask: AI tools for personalized learning in any subject.
