YC argues that AI progress needs more data centers, built faster and at lower cost. Hyperscale data center projects take years to complete, and YC wants new companies and new approaches to speed up the buildout.

The ask: YC describes a future where software handles every step of planning and building new data centers or warehouses, from site selection and construction to setup and ongoing management. It pictures these sites running "lights out", with robots operating on their own around the clock without human intervention. It wants to fund startups working toward that.
