Elevator Pitch

Most people make big money decisions using friends, Google or an expensive advisor. YC wants LLM software that gives everyone personalized, unbiased finance, investment and tax advice at near-zero cost.

Full Description

Everyone faces the same financial questions: how much to save, where to invest for the right level of risk, and how to handle debt and taxes. YC notes that most people aren't rational about money, and the usual sources of answers (friends, Google, a bank or a financial advisor) are biased or lack the full picture, while a great advisor is very expensive.

Why now: LLMs make it possible to build software that gives every person personalized finance, investment and tax advice at near-zero cost.

The ask: an AI advisor that uses APIs to see a person's complete financial situation and gives fully personal, unbiased advice.

Market opportunity

I sized this as a consumer-subscription market because AI financial advice monetizes most naturally as annual per-household guidance, not by asset fees. Using 129.2M US households and a SCF-based estimate that roughly two-thirds are below the typical $250k investable-assets advisor threshold, the base case implies a ~$9.7B US TAM with a year-1 SOM of ~$68M and a year-5 SOM of ~$747M.

Base Annual Hybrid view. Total addressable market: $9.7 billion. Serviceable addressable market: $6.8 billion. Serviceable obtainable market: $67.9 million.

SAM$6.8B
