YC says it spent two years funding startups that use AI to disrupt legacy players, and now sees the next wave: AI agents that go beyond assisting people and make decisions on their own. With o1, and o3 expected soon, YC noted these agents were getting much better at reasoning.
YC expects agents to become common across industries and in daily life, picturing each person backed by a team of specialized agents working in the background.
The ask: developer tools for AI agents. YC names two kinds: agent builders that let customers create and deploy custom agents, such as Wordware (YC S24) and Stack AI (YC W23); and building blocks (tools, APIs or platforms) that let agents take on more complex actions.
