Request for Startups

Elevator Pitch

After a hard stretch for fintech following Silicon Valley Bank's collapse, YC argued the window was reopening and called for a new generation of financial startups.

Get involved

Full Description

YC described the two years before this request as rough for fintech: after Silicon Valley Bank collapsed, regulators clamped down on new startups and investors left the space. YC said it was optimistic this was about to change.

Why now: YC argues the hardest part of starting a financial company, getting a deal with a bank or other regulated partner, keeps getting easier thanks to providers like Stripe and new core technologies like stablecoins. It also expects AI to change the financial industry quickly, and thinks a small startup without legacy systems or processes may have a structural edge in building global financial products.

The ask: a new generation of fintech companies built on the infrastructure now available, in areas like insurance, investment banking, wealth management and international payments.
