Elevator Pitch
YC wants to bring manufacturing back to America, arguing that ML-based robotics and a generation of SpaceX- and Tesla-trained engineers make it newly possible.

Full Description
YC notes that the UK in the 19th century and the US in the 20th became the world's richest countries by being its workshop. It argues the US has since given up that role, which led to social and political division and left the country in a precarious place geopolitically. YC calls bringing manufacturing back one of the biggest areas of bipartisan agreement, and says Tesla's Gigafactories in Austin and Nevada show it can be done.
Why now: ML-based robotics can automate far more, shrinking the labor-cost gap that pushed manufacturing abroad. SpaceX and Tesla have also trained a generation of engineers to build physical-product companies that operate like startups.
Where it applies: YC cites Astranis (W16), building telecom satellites in San Francisco; Gecko Robotics (W16), making industrial inspection robots in Pittsburgh; and Solugen (W17), making industrial chemicals in Houston.
The ask: companies that manufacture in the USA.
