Full Description
YC's starting point is that being safe at home and on the street is a basic thing civilization should give its citizens. It cites two YC companies. Flock Safety (YC S17) makes license plate cameras that YC says help solve 10% of reported crimes in the US, and it was aiming for 25%. Abel Police (YC S24) cuts police paperwork from hours to minutes, which YC says gives officers up to 25% more hours a day for real police work.
The ask: YC names four areas: computer vision that spots suspicious activity or people in distress in video without compromising privacy; faster, better-coordinated emergency response; tools that improve how communities and law enforcement interact and help neighbors stay informed; and technology that helps law enforcement work more effectively and fairly, from workload management to accuracy.
