Full Description
YC notes that phone calls are one way people deal with businesses that hasn't changed much in almost 100 years: long wait times, voice trees, pressing star or pound, and in the end wanting a human anyway.
Why now: new voice models and conversational LLMs are now very good, and startups using them are building voice AI bots that YC describes as indistinguishable from humans. The unlock was model quality.
The size: YC puts the number of calls between businesses and their customers at over a trillion today.
The ask: startups building voice AI for these conversations. YC compares talking to a good voice AI bot to riding in an autonomous car for the first time: it just works.
