Academia is at a turning point. While AI challenges traditional methods of learning, its potential to deepen scholarship, broaden audiences, and speed the pace of discovery is enormous. In partnership with the Institute for Humane Studies (IHS), Cosmos Institute supports scholars pursuing research in philosophy and the humanities — and work that helps refine the role of judgment in scholarship.
Rather than a stipend, the program covers the expenses for AI tools and credits needed for research and experimentation (typically under $5,000). Recipients also join a vetted network of academics experimenting with AI tools to accelerate their research, including scholars such as Seth Lazar and Kevin Vallier.
It is aimed at academics who want to use AI to expand the frontiers of freedom and the humanities, not replace the judgment at their core.
