Focal's Founder Residency is a 3–6 month program in Miami's Wynwood district, accepting just 10 startups per cohort (less than 1% acceptance rate). Uniquely, founders can choose to participate without giving up equity, or receive optional upfront funding of $25K–$50K on an uncapped SAFE with MFN.
During the residency, companies may access pre-seed funding up to $1M at market terms. Relocation to Miami is mandatory for all co-founders, with housing support and free office space at The LAB Miami.
Equity-optional participation is rare among residencies. Miami offers 25%+ lower cost of living than SF/NYC.
Technical AI/software founders based in North America who can relocate to Miami. Minimum 6 days/week in-office expected.
The equity-free option means founders can access workspace, community, and mentorship without dilution. Only give up equity when ready for pre-seed funding.
