The Anthropic Residency is Anthropic's paid, fixed-term research program, with placements of six weeks, three months or six months. Residents work on problems set out by Anthropic researchers, doing empirical research alongside Anthropic's teams, and each is paired with an Anthropic mentor.
It is aimed at people who have led ambitious work in a technical field (for example professors in quantitative disciplines, technical founders and staff-level engineers) and who care about making AI safe and beneficial. Anthropic says a machine learning background is not required, and you don't need a PhD, prior ML experience or published papers.
Residents are paid $350,000 to $500,000 a year equivalent. Anthropic prefers residents to work from its San Francisco offices, but remote work is possible, especially for shorter placements. There are separate US and UK applications. Applications for this round close on November 22, 2026.
